Derrick Rose was spectacular in his NBA postseason debut with 36 points and 11 assists, and the visiting Chicago Bulls scored a dramatic victory against the defending champion Boston Celtics, 105-103, in overtime.

Rose set a Bulls rookie record for most points scored in a postseason game, previously held by Michael Jordan (35 points). It was Rose’s two free throws with 9.4 seconds remaining in regulation that broke the mark, but Paul Pierce tied the game at the line with 2.6 seconds left to force the extra session. Rose also tied the NBA record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most points in a postseason debut by a rookie.

Ben Gordon added 20 points for the Bulls, and Tyrus Thomas had 16 points—including the shot to put the Bulls ahead for good in overtime—and six boards. The win was Chicago’s first-ever against Boston in the postseason. Game 2 will be played in Boston at 6 p.m. on Monday.
