NBA Summer League action for the Bulls doesn’t officially get underway until Tuesday night, but the team got a head start on Monday evening with a scrimmage against the Cavs at Durango High School in Las Vegas.

Following the scrimmage, Bulls Summer League Head Coach Pete Myers talked with Chuck Swirsky, who is in Vegas for the action this week.

“Defensively, I don’t think we’re there yet,” said Myers. “I thought we blew a lot of coverages that we went over in training camp. For some reason, that hasn’t transferred over on to the court yet and a lot of that lies on us as coaches.”

Myers was pleased with James Johnson’s effort, especially on offense. The Bulls will be counting on Johnson this week in Vegas, Myers said, as he is the only regular member from the team’s roster.

Swirsky also caught up with Matt Bouldin, a 6-5, 224-pound guard from Gonzaga. The Bulls are playing Bouldin at off guard in the backcourt with John Lucas III, an Oklahoma State product.

“It was the best situation for me,” Bouldin said of joining the Bulls’ summer league roster. “Unless the Bulls had picked me up in the second round [of the NBA Draft], I don’t think there would have been a better situation than me coming here undrafted.”

Chicago’s opening game in the 2010 NBA Summer League will tip off at approximately 3 p.m. CT against the Denver Nuggets and will be televised live on NBA TV.
