Christmas at the Garden for Bulls and Knicks

Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah and the Bulls will face Amar’e Stoudemire and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day, it was announced on Tuesday evening.

The game will air on ESPN at 11 a.m. CT and will mark the first match up on Dec. 25 between the teams since 1994, when the Bulls defeated the Knicks 107-104 in overtime at the United Center in the building’s inaugural season. Scottie Pippen, set for enshrinement in basketball’s Hall of Fame on Aug. 13, led the way for Chicago with 36 points and 16 rebounds.

The Bulls will open the coming season on the road, when the team travels to Oklahoma City to face Kevin Durant and the Thunder on Wednesday, Oct. 27 (ESPN | 7 p.m. CT).

The following week, the Bulls will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, Nov. 1, a game which will be televised by NBA TV at 7 p.m. CT but may not necessarily be the team’s home opener.

Later in the season, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Bulls will visit the Memphis Grizzlies for an afternoon matinee contest (ESPN | 12 p.m. CT).

Portions of the 2010-11 schedule were released during an hour-long special on NBA TV, with the entire 2010-11 schedule set to be announced on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Individual game tickets for every 2010-11 home game will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1 at the United Center Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1.800.4NBA.TIX, and online at Bulls.com.

Other highlights from the national television schedule for opening week and Christmas Day include the Heat at Celtics (Debut of LeBron James and Chris Bosh with Miami | Oct. 26 | TNT | 6:30 p.m. CT), Celtics at Magic (Dec. 25 | ABC | 1:30 p.m.) and Heat at Lakers (Defending champions face LeBron, Dwyane Wade and Bosh | Dec. 25 | ABC | 4 p.m. CT).
