NBA Summer League action carries on in Las Vegas, but the story of the day on Friday for the Bulls was the signing of unrestricted free agent guard Ronnie Brewer. Not long after the Bulls learned Orlando would match their three-year offer sheet for J.J. Redick, a deal for Brewer, reportedly for three-years and $12.5 million, was in place.

“We’re excited obviously to have him join us,” Head Coach Tom Thibodeau told Chuck Swirsky. “We think he brings a lot to our team from a defensive standpoint and the fact he has started a number of games in the league. He’s a guy that attacks the basket and is a very good finisher in transition. He’s great moving without the ball and can hit a spot up 15- to 17-footer. He has all the qualities we’re looking for in a winning player.”

Thibodeau said that the Bulls are still not finished with their moves and added that he likes the flexibility that comes with Brewer and Kyle Korver, who signed with the team last week, in that both play the shooting guard and small forward positions.

As for the NBA Summer League, the Bulls dropped to 1-2 when Pooh Jeter hit a three-pointer with 6.9 seconds left in the game to give the Cavaliers (3-0) an 81-80 victory. Cleveland trailed by as much as a 16 in the contest and never led until Jeter connected.

Chicago had a quartet of scorers reach double-digits with Samardo Samuels topping out with a team-high 19 in a losing effort. John Lucas chipped in 15, while Morris Almond had 14. Trent Plaistad closed out Chicago’s 10-plus scorers with 12 points.

Cleveland shot 45.2 percent (28-for-62) for the game to Chicago’s 38.7 percent (24-for-62). The Cavaliers held the edge in three-pointers making six to the Bulls’ two, but the Bulls made 11 more free throws (30-to-19).
